Would you like to join our team and play a pivotal role as we launch a brand-new dedicated workshop space in the heart of the Ferens Art Gallery? The vision for this new space is to provide a practical, relaxed and inspiring art studio style space where audiences are welcomed and encouraged to create and display work.

About the Role:

In this role you will help develop, deliver, and coordinate a comprehensive programme of art activities for the gallery with a focus on our newly developed creative space, ‘Create Gallery’. These activities will be aligned with the gallery’s vision, collections and exhibition themes. The Create Gallery is a multi-use space, used by a range of audiences which at periods during the year will be used as a base for the Ferens Artist in Residence. Key audiences targeted for engagement with this programme include schools, families, adults and general public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop an annual programme of art and craft workshops focussing on a range of mediums covering 2D and 3D.
  • Delivering art workshops as spart of the programme for children and adults using your art specialism, e.g. drawing, painting.
  • Identifying and booking external artists with specialisms to deliver workshops.
  • Consulting with audiences regarding programme content and to establish the appropriate times of year to book in workshop programme.
  • Liaising with the learning team to provide workshop details ready for upload to the service’s online booking system.
  • To be a point of contact for volunteers.
  • Responsibility for maintenance of resources and workshop space storage, ensuring condition is maintained and that stock levels are topped up as required.
  • Responsible for a small resource budget, used for procurement of consumable materials to maintain stock levels.
  • To evaluate the workshop programme, feeding back reports to line manager.

Training will be provided, including:

  • Introduction to the Ferens Art collection
  • Evaluation processes
  • Accessibility

What We’re Looking For:

  • This role is ideal for someone who is creative, resourceful and passionate about engaging audiences with art.
  • You should have a strong practical background in art and be experienced in developing and leading art workshops for a range of audiences including schools, families and adults.
  • You will also have experience as a practitioner in 2D or 3D disciplines, underpinned by a strong skill set in drawing.
  • Experience of booking artists and working with volunteers.
  • Experience of working within gallery environments
  • Working with museum / art collections
  • To have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of age groups and abilities.
  • Competent in the use of digital / PCs and basic word processing

Qualifications

  • An art related qualification that could include A level, BTEC, Foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, or equivalent experience.
