Enterprise and IP Librarian
Do you enjoy variety, working with people and have a strong sense of curiosity? If so, Hull Library Service has an exciting opportunity available to work as part of a team to develop high quality library services that meet the needs of local people, encouraging curiosity and an enjoyment of reading, learning and taking part.
This opportunity will be to cover maternity and is a fixed term contract.
You will have a recognised qualification to degree level, postgraduate diploma or equivalent in librarianship, information science or an appropriate subject. A certificate of IP training or to be willing to work towards achieving this qualification is essential.
No two days are alike in this role and the successful applicant must have a flexible approach to work, including being willing to change hours and days of work, sometimes at short notice and you must be willing to work evenings and weekends. Early evening and Saturday working is essential but occasionally you are also expected to work late evenings, Sundays and Bank Holidays.
A key part of your role will be to support people to access appropriate and accurate information to support many different aspects of their lives, from how to contact someone, to legal and medical information. A particularly important area of this work is our Business and Intellectual Property Centre which provides support to people wanting to start a business or to grow an existing business and will require you to guide and support businesses to access library resources.
You will use your knowledge of Hull’s communities to purchase and commission activities and resources that meet the information and leisure needs of those communities. We utilise a number of IT systems and databases to help us do this and you will be required to be adept at being able to utilise these tools and be able to demonstrate an interest in finding new tools to improve access to resources and knowledge for our communities.
Any offer of employment to these posts will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced & Barring List disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service.
Hull City Council employees can apply for posts in Hull Culture & Leisure as internal applicants, however any continuous service with Hull City Council will not transfer.
