Hull Culture & Leisure is looking for a talented individual to join the Technical Team as Deputy Chief LX. The successful candidate will report to the current Chief LX within the Theatre & Halls service. The post holder will be required to work as part of a team and assist in the efficient and effective provision of technical support for all relevant aspects of the technical, production, room space and event activities within Theatre and Halls Service comprised of two of Hull’s prestigious venues – Hull City Hall and Hull New Theatre.
The post is key to assisting in the following duties across the technical department, get-ins, fit-ups, rigging, flying, room set up, get-outs and operating the lighting board, mixer desk and follow spots during rehearsals and performances as required. The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively together with visiting production companies to ensure safe preparation, operation and maintenance of technical equipment and facilities across the venues.
The postholder will deputise for the Chief LX when required and will liaise with production companies in regarding advance show preparation information, along with keeping records of contra costs for settlement purposes.
Compliance with relevant Health and Safety Legislation and Licensing regulations is essential. You will be also required to provide excellent customer care and support to all visiting companies and clients.
Applicants will be self-motivated, hold a relevant technical qualification or be able to demonstrate practical experience in entertainment and theatres technical provision in at least two of the following: lighting, sound, audio-visual, stage and venue fit-up, rigging and counterweight flying systems. Practical skills are a must, including working at heights and manual handling. The ability to work calmly under pressure, meet tight deadlines and work regular evenings and weekends is essential.
